How accurate is the count?

Confidence score; nothing prices until you confirm.

Every line the extraction produces carries a confidence value between 0 and 1, which is the model's own stated probability that a competent estimator reading the same sheets would land within 10% of that quantity, and no line reaches your bid until you have confirmed or edited it yourself.

What the number means

The bands are set deliberately. Explicit counts off a schedule or legend sit high, quantities measured or scaled from stated dimensions sit in the middle, and anything inferred from an unstated value sits low. A low-confidence line is the extraction telling you where it had to assume something, which is exactly where you should look first.

It is a self-report, not a measured error rate. Portravo does not publish an accuracy percentage, because a single number across every plan set and every trade would not mean anything you could rely on.

The checks that are not self-reported

A deterministic pass runs after extraction and re-reads each measured line against the arithmetic in its own note. If the note supports numbers that all disagree with the quantity by more than 12%, confidence is floored at 0.35, the assembly link is removed so the line cannot price without a human, and the note is prefixed with a warning.

Derived areas with no supporting arithmetic at all are capped at 0.55 regardless of what the model claimed. Those two rules exist because an overconfident fabricated line is worse than a line that admits it is a guess.

The gate that actually protects the bid

Only lines with a status of confirmed or edited are expanded into materials and labor by the pricing engine. Pending lines are skipped and reported to you as skipped. Confirming a line sets its confidence to 1, because at that point the quantity is yours, not the machine's.

You can bulk confirm above a confidence floor to move quickly on straight counts, and it is still your signature on the bid. Review the flagged lines by hand.

What to check before you confirm

The five checks that catch most of the cost.

  • 01Any line with a warning prefix on its note. Those failed the arithmetic check.
  • 02Every area line: drywall, insulation and paint depend on a ceiling height that the sheet may not state.
  • 03Roof quantities, which may be plan area with no pitch or overhang applied. The note will say.
  • 04The highest-dollar quantities, whatever their confidence.
  • 05Scope that is not on the sheets at all: demo, temp power, site work, and anything in the specs but not drawn.

Also asked
What accuracy percentage does Portravo claim?
None. Confidence is reported per line as the model's own probability that an estimator would agree within 10%, and deterministic checks lower it where a quantity contradicts its own note. There is no published overall accuracy figure.
Can a line price without me looking at it?
No. The pricing engine only expands lines you marked confirmed or edited. Anything left pending is skipped and the estimate reports how many lines were skipped.
