Review each quantity
For every priced line, retain a sheet or source reference, material specification, unit, measured quantity, waste assumption, and reviewed order quantity. Check that a count, length, area, or volume has not been substituted for another unit.

Investigate uncertain or omitted lines before relying on the total. Human confirmation of one line does not validate every assembly in the plan set.

Confirm what the price means
Separate a dated reference benchmark from a current supplier quote. Record source, as-of time, location, unit, and whether tax, freight, labor, overhead, and contingency are included. Confirm availability and substitutions with the supplier before committing to the job.

Reconcile the bid before release
Illustrative quantity example: 40 studs plus a chosen 10% waste allowance gives 44 studs. The allowance is an assumption for this example, not a universal rule. Multiply by a confirmed per-stud price, then keep additional cost components visible.

Markup and margin use different bases. With an illustrative cost of 100 and a selling price of 125, markup is 25% and gross margin is 20%. Use the same definitions throughout the estimate and avoid counting overhead twice.
